Grooming can help keep your cat's coat healthy and give you some quality time together. Grooming your cat at home is a great way to strengthen your family bond! Brushing helps remove dead hair, prevent matting, and stimulate new hair growth. Combing helps you find tangles you might have missed with the brush.
Follow our tips, and enjoy some quality time with your cat.
Shorthairs (Abyssinian, Snowshoe, Singapura, Tonkinese, and others)
Frequency: weekly, for 10-15 minutes
You'll need: Chamois, or a piece of cloth; rubber curry brush; slicker brush
How to do it: Use the curry brush in a gentle, circular motion to remove loose hair. Follow with the slicker brush if your cat's coat is dense. Smooth with a cloth to finish.
Medium and Longhairs (including Persian, Himalayan, Balinese and Maine Coon)
Frequency: 2-3 times a week (medium coats) or daily (longhaired and thick coats)
You'll need: small slicker brush; stainless steel, wide-toothed comb
How to do it: Starting from the tail end, brush your cat with short strokes, from the skin out, by parting the hair and lifting the fur. Working the same way, use the comb to find any tangles, and use the slicker or your fingers to work them out. Always be gentle. Don't scratch the skin!
