When choosing a veterinarian for your new pet consider the following:
Good communication.
Your veterinarian should be a good communicator. He or she should be willing to answer questions thoroughly and clearly explain any tests or procedures performed on your pet.
Education.
Educational pamphlets, videos, and other material should be readily available to you at the veterinarian's office.
Emergency care.
Your veterinarian should have 24-hour coverage for any emergencies either personally or by referral to a quality emergency care facility or animal hospital.
Competent staff.
Your veterinarian's staff should be courteous and well educated. You should feel comfortable calling or visiting your vet's office whenever you have a question about your pet's health.
Visiting hours.
If your pet has to stay in the veterinarian's office or animal hospital overnight, make sure they offer visiting hours. Your presence will go a long way in helping your pet recover.
